The Commission of Science & Technology of Beijing
Dear Sir/Madam:

The purpose of this letter is to support the collaborative research initiative here in the United States by the Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine Team led by Drs. Chong Lianjin, Dong Xuehong and Li Changyou.

TO my knowledge, Drs. Chong, Dong and Li, a team of traditional Chinese medical doctors specializing in diabetes research and treatment, were able to successfully initiate a scientific collaboration with one of the most famous centers for diabetes research at Stanford University . These specialists developed their unique theory concerning the prevention and treatment of diabetes. They believe that based on the principle of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the etiology of diabetes is due to the malfunctioning of multi-organs instead of simply lacking insulin in the pancreas. Thus, they developed a so-called” organic regeneration theory” to be used to direct the treatment of diabetes. As diabetes is one of the most major diseases that threaten peoples lives, the formulation of a theory useful for the prevention and treatment of the disease is no doubt a contribution to the mankind. It is particularly exciting that not only they formulated their theory, but also they for the first time brought it to the domain of modern scientific research in order to prove it as well as to further develop it. Therefore, their successful collaboration with scientists and medical doctors at Stanford University can be regarded as an important event in the history of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Continuing this research collaboration initiative by Dr. Chong and colleagues will be important for developing new approaches for the treatment of diabetes. Equally important, this kind of research collaboration between specialists of Chinese medicine and scientists and medical doctors of the west represents an indispensable means to modernize Traditional Chinese Medicine. Here, I’d like to recommend the Chinese diabetes specialist team from Beijing for your consideration of financial assistance.
